About

Africa Day

Africa Day has been the leading event bringing Africa to the Netherlands for 30 years. With around 1,000 visitors, speakers, volunteers, and 40 partner organizations, it is the largest public event in the Netherlands on Africa and international cooperation. The day consists of workshops, lectures, discussions, films, and music. With this event, we aim to provide a platform for African voices and bring together citizens, politicians, and NGOs to discuss a new partnership between Africa and Europe based on equality. Africa Day is organized every year by the Foundation for European Progressive Studies (FEPS) and the Max van der Stoel Foundation (FMS).

The organization of Africa Day is managed by the Max van der Stoel Foundation (FMS). The Max van der Stoel Foundation is an independent foreign foundation affiliated with the Dutch Labour Party (PvdA). We are committed to democratization in the EU’s neighboring countries, to fairer Dutch and EU policies toward developing countries, and to stimulating public debate on these issues in the Netherlands.

The Foundation for European Progressive Studies (FEPS) is the think tank of the social-democratic political family at EU level. Its mission is to develop research, policy advice, training, and debates for the progressive movement, and to promote the core principles of the EU—freedom, equality, solidarity, democracy. Since its founding, FEPS has been primarily funded by the European Parliament.
